Waxed shoelaces
Waxed shoelaces are regular cotton shoelaces that have a coat of wax on the surface. This process gives the lace a waxy sheen, making the shoelace more durable, more water-resistant and more rigid.
Since waxed shoelaces are more rigid, it gives you more control over how tight you want to tie your shoes.
Choosing the right shoelaces
The easiest method in finding the right shoelace length is to take your old lace and measure them, and this will give you a rough guide on which shoelaces you want to purchase.
Next comes width, at Coolnice, there are four different shoelaces that you can choose.
- 7mm flat waxed laces - these are great for sports shoes and sneakers
- 3mm round waxed laces - durable shoelaces, great for everyday shoes or shoes that see a lot of wear, such as school shoes.
- 2.5 mm round waxed lace - a tier between 3 and 2mm shoelaces, great for everyday office shoes, brogue and formal shoes.
- 2mm round waxed laces - a refined shoelace, still durable and an excellent choice for formal shoes.
We offer gold or silver aglets, metal pieces that are placed at the end of the laces, protecting your shoelaces and giving your laces extra style points.
How to look after your shoelace
To get the most out of your laces, follow these easy steps:
- When tying your shoelace, make sure your feet are in the back of the shoe, and the tongue of the shoe is straight. If you have to wrap your laces around your hands to tighten, you are tyings your shoes too tightly.
- Make sure the ends of the shoelace isn't too long, having long loops/bows can cause your laces to come untied. If the shoelaces are too long, you may want to purchase another set of laces, that are shorter.
- Make sure you don't walk around with untied shoelaces, they damage the laces, but more concerning is that you might trip over your shoelaces.
