Sports Shoelaces

What is the difference between round and oval sports laces?

Oval laces are specifically engineered for performance running. Unlike standard round laces, the oval cross-section allows the lace to deform and lock against itself within the knot, significantly reducing the chance of it coming undone. Round laces are generally more durable for sports involving contact, like soccer or football, where abrasion is common.

How long should my running shoe laces be?

Most standard running shoes (6–7 eyelets) require 110cm to 130cm laces. If you use the "heel lock" or "runner's loop" (the extra eyelet at the very top), you should opt for 140cmto ensure you have enough length to tie a secure double knot.

Are elastic "no-tie" laces good for sports?

Elastic lacing systems are excellent for triathletes looking for fast transitions or individuals with wide feet who need dynamic tension relief. However, for sports requiring lateral explosive movements (like basketball or tennis), a non-stretch braided lace is usually preferred to provide maximum ankle stability and prevent the foot from sliding inside the shoe.

Why do my laces feel too tight during exercise?

Feet naturally swell during physical activity. If your laces feel tight, look for semi-elastic polyester blends. These provide a secure hold while allowing for a millimeter of "give" as your foot expands, preventing "hot spots" or numbness on the top of the foot.
